Very useful reference. Still a valuable reference. It was imcluded on my required book list when I was a college freshman over 50 years ago and I continue to use it (in updated editions) to this day.
Merriam-Webster Dictionary 11th Edition I would give this dictionary a "5" (highest) rating except it is 2003 edition. We need a NEW Mirriam-Webster Collegiate! I hope one is on its way. The M-W is very good for its size. I can find most words I need in it. When a word is not in it, I go to my much heavier American Heritage Dictionary. Of course you can Google a word for the correct spelling now, but that means you must be at a computer. I like a dictionary at my fingertips. I live alone and often read while eating. I keep a small American Oxford Dictionary on the table for use there, but the M-W is the one I use the most.
I wish it had tabs What can I say? It's a dictionary. It defines words. It performs as advertised. My only gripe is that it doesn't have alphabetized tabs for quick referencing. So, trying to start your search in the proper place is a shot in the dark, which is a bit annoying.
it's a dictionary it serves its purpose. i think i prefer oxford over M-W. Oxford gives definitions and examples based on the most common usage of the word. Webster traditionally gives it by historical precedence. You may find yourself using an dated definition for a word in public and feel silly after word.
Amazon Dumped the doggie doo It helps not when Amazon combines the reviews from Printed edition and the Kindle edition. It makes no sense. Of course a Dictionary on kindle that you can not use because all the things that you would expect on a computer are not there.
